Today, something a little special to kick off the week. I’m participating in the piCture pOlish Blog Fest, where 60 bloggers – from around the world – will all be posting a piCture pOlish lacquer on their blogs.

The lacquer I am showcasing is Vampire, a deep burgundy/red jelly.

This is a gorgeous little jelly.  Squishy and wet looking on the nail.  This is a jelly that won’t have an even finish, no matter how many coats you do (I’ve done four here) but that doesn’t worry me.  I kinda like that it looks like dripping and streaking paint.  It makes the lacquer interesting and not ‘perfect’.

My only qualm? The colour is so deep and rich I can’t see the name on the front of the bottle! Or the nifty little vignette that the Girls add to every lacquer.  Other than that? Jelly perfection.

  • Anonymous

I don’t think they are available in the US. But piCture pOlish do offer international shipping so that might be your easiest way?

  • Anonymous

Hahaha, I didn’t even know which one I was getting. But I do like it.

are my eyes playing tricks on me, or does the bottle say “fire vs vampire”???

  • Anonymous

I’m pretty sure it’s vampire but let me check the bottle when I get home
    tonight.

This looks like a streaky mess to me and it also shows cuticle drag.  I can’t see spending money on any polish that doesn’t look good with 4 coats. The color is not unique: there are plenty of burgundy jellies in the world with better application.  Giant fail.

    Me too!

Yummy! I love a vampy red jelly. The uneven quality isn’t unappealing to me. It looks like wine or blood, very organic. Thank you for showing this one. :)

    You’re welcome. :-)

I quite like the colour. I have NO idea what cuticle drag is, but I’m with you, I kinda like the imperfections. I could imagine this on one of the characters from true blood.

Pam! It’s a Pam colour for sure isn’t it.

Cuticle drag is what happens when applying the second coat: the brush pulls at the first coat so that a bald spot occurs. It’s fairly common with some brands of jelly polishes. It’s a problem relating to the density of pigmentation and the viscosity of the polish base. Some jellies are formulated so perfectly that you only need two or three coats to reach bottle color and streaking and cuticle drag are minimal. Other polishes are a streak fest, and never level out.

Btw, Vampire looks like a dupe of Essie Material Girl, which levels out beautifully, and only needs 3 thin coats to reach bottle color. Additionally, I could never sit still long enough for 4 coats (plus base and top) to dry and I’d worry about bubbling. Picture Polish has some wonderful polishes, but this is nothing out of the ordinary for a vampy red jelly.
